A third of Vietnam’s ancient town could soon be under water
Authorities in Hoi An have warned that rising tides will swallow a third of the central tourist town , news website Voice of Vietnam has reported.
Hundreds of households and hoteliers in Hoi An have suffered continuous attacks by high tides on the Cua Dai embankment this rainy season.
For over the last month, a 300-meter section of beach has been ravaged by waves that uprooted coconut trees and electricity poles.
Tides have gradually swallowed the 3-km Cua Dai Beach; some sections of the beach have been eaten 40 meters into the shore.

The Hoi An Town‘s People’s Committee, the local government, is calling on local residents and businesses to build makeshift embankments at the eroded beach sections.
It also extracted VND10 billion (US$471,200) for a project to build the Cua Dai embankment, but said the project has run into a lot of difficulties due to rogue waves and strong winds.
The town administration admitted that the project is just a temporary solution to prevent erosion during the rainy seasons.
As Hoi An Town (travel in Vietnam) lies on the banks of the Thu Bon River, and faces the sea on one side and the river on the other side, it is hard to prevent erosion.
Nguyen Van Hien, head of the Hoi An Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said the government should take more steps to control the flow of the Thu Bon River and dredge Cua Dai Bay as its shallow entrance retains flood waters longer.
Hoi An Town (Vietnam travel) in the coastal province of Quang Nam, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1999, is an alluring mix of heritage buildings with a unique blend of local and foreign influences, colorful lanterns, craft villages, beautiful beaches, river cruises, and delicious food.

Top 10 Iconic Landscapes of Vietnam
Vietnam classic tour for you introduction top 10 Iconic Landscapes of Vietnam
Halong Bay:
There's nothing quite like Halong Bay first thing in the morning. As the mists
clear, hundreds of huge karst towers appear, looming high above the boat. In
the soft morning light it's like waking up in a watercolor painting of a
mythical land.
Hanoi:
Motorbikes piled high with people, produce and even animals zip through the
streets. It's crazy, haphazard and somehow it works. The best way to take it
all in is from a rooftop cafe. Order an extra strong coffee and watch the chaos
unfold below.
Mekong Delta:
This massive area of floating markets, emerald rice paddies and lush islands is
home to some of the friendliest people on earth. Take a boat trip to one of the
sleepy islands to get a front row view of life on the Delta, and meet the
people who call it home.
Sapa: Head to
the hills and see the colourful villages of Vietnam's minority groups - the
Zay, and the Blue and Black H'mong. The area is remote so the best way to
experience it is on an overnight trek, spending the night as a guest of a local
family.
Qui Nhon:
Quaint Qui Nhon is a sleepy beach town off the main tourist trail. It's worth
coming here just for the drive. The road hugs granite cliffs that plunge into
the South China Sea, and islands, lagoons and sand dunes slowly give way to
sugar plantations and rice fields.
Hue:
Jam-packed with imperial sites, Hue is one for the history buffs. Explore the
Citadel with its ruined Forbidden Purple City before embracing your inner
emperor and taking a dragonboat cruise down the Perfume River.
Hoi An: This
shoppers' paradise is home to more boot makers, tailors and handicraft than you
could visit in a lifetime. While you wait for your suit to be made, hire a
bicycle and explore the Old Town - the streets are blissfully car free.
Ho Chi Minh
City: Still known as Saigon to most, HCMC is a city on the go. It's fast-paced,
exciting and full of amazing sites. Temples and markets collide with churches
and skyscrapers for a heady mix of traditional, colonial and modern.
Mai Chau: Mai
Chau feels a million miles away from the bustle of Hanoi. Misty mountains and
emerald rice paddies contribute to the air of peacefulness. Be sure to look out
for the traditional fabrics woven by the White Thais that call this area home.
Dalat: It's
spring all year round in Vietnam's 'honeymoon capital'. Soak up the
French-inspired atmosphere, spot the quirky local artists and explore the
surrounding lakes, waterfalls and forests. C'est fantastique!

Hue promotes traditional etiquette
From Vietnamclassic tour - Residents in central Thua Thien-Hue Province are being
encouraged to dress up more for special events and ceremonial occasions in
keeping with the region's regal past.
Ao dai - a tradition dress in Hue
The proposal,
by the province's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aims to restore
the elegant lifestyle of people that has largely faded during post-war
reconstruction.
Vietnamese
visiting monuments around the old royal city will be asked to wear conservative
or traditional clothing.
And street
vendors and others using public space will be supervised to make sure their activities
do not get out of hand.
The proposal
targets creating clean communities, streets without beggars and neighbourhoods
without stickers or phone numbers plastered on walls.
In addition,
families will be encouraged to hold funerals within three days of a person's
death. In Viet Nam, and particularly in Hue, funerals for respected elderly
people can be delayed for up to a week or 10 days so that all family and
friends can show their compassion.

Phu Quoc named in Top 3 best winter trips
The
heart-shaped Phu Quoc island of Vietnam ranked third in the list of best winter
trips 2014, according to the U.S.-based National Geographic Traveler magazine.
honey moon in Phu Quoc island
The
periodical noted that there’s no reason to hibernate this winter when there are
new beaches, slopes, sports, and festivals to discover. This year’s list of
best winter trips is a global collection of 15 editor-recommended
destinations.
Some of
Vietnam’s best beaches are on Phu Quoc island, making them closer to Cambodia
than the Vietnamese mainland.
Phu Quoc once
housed the so-called “coconut tree prison” (now a museum), where Vietcong
prisoners of war were held through 1973. What’s bringing international
travelers and, so far, restrained development to Phu Quoc today are its warm,
turquoise waters; secluded, deep sand beaches; and lush, mountainous interior (protected
as a national park).
Most resorts
are located south of Phu Quoc International Airport on Long Beach, and provide
airport transfers to their guests. The most convenient way to travel around the
island is by motorbike taxi or (with extreme caution) by motorbike.
The magazine
also suggested tourists to visit the bustling Dinh Cau Night Market to try
whatever local fishermen hauled in that day (sea urchin, prawns, clams, squid,
scallops, sardines). Held most evenings near Cau Temple in Duong Dong, the
market has dozens of stalls and is a good place to shop for souvenirs (although
most items aren’t produced locally).
Phu Quoc is
Vietnam’s nuoc mam (fish sauce) capital. The island’s signature (and powerfully
pungent) sweet-sour Phu Quoc sauce is the essential Vietnamese condiment and,
in 2013, became the country’s first product granted the European Union
Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.
Other ideal
destinations include Paris (France); Lake Baikal, Siberia, (Russia); Santa
Margherita Ligure (Italy); Nosara Beaches (Costa Rica); Winter Wolf Viewing,
Lamar Valley Yellowstone National Park (the US); Gold Coast, Queensland
(Australia); Winter Festivals in Miami, Miami Beach, and Coral Gables, Florida;
Muscat-to-Salalah Coastal Route (Oman).
